IFEDI: A Vision of the Provincial Council Brought to Life

In 1993 , the Provincial Council of Ciudad Real promoted the construction of a trade fair pavilion to host the growing number of trade events already being held in the city. To provide continuity for these events, which until then had been organized in temporary tents, the three regional institutions — the City Council, the Regional Government, and the Provincial Council — jointly financed the construction of a new exhibition hall, which would become the foundation for what is now IFEDI (Trade Fair Institution of the Provincial Council of Ciudad Real).

In 2006, following an agreement with the other two institutions, the Provincial Council acquired full ownership and property rights of the former Ciudad Real Exhibition and Congress Pavilion. It also proposed an expansion of the venue, although it would not be until 2018 that this project was realized, at the very same site as the original building.

The first phase involved renovating the existing facilities by enclosing the open-air central courtyard, constructing a new pavilion on the rear parking lot, and relocating the classrooms, which were given a more prominent position on the building’s main façade. This resulted in three exhibition halls, two of which were built with two levels. The auditorium and cafeteria were also refurbished, with the cafeteria being extended by 300 square meters and fitted with two private dining areas.

In 2022, following the conclusion of the 11th edition of FENAVIN, the foundation stone was laid for the expansion of the complex, with the construction of three new pavilions on an adjacent 10,000-square-meter plot purchased by the Provincial Council. The construction continued through 2023 and the new facilities were officially inaugurated in April.
